What is ClearDraft?

ClearDraft pairs bespoke AI-powered review with expert media lawyer oversight to give journalists, creators, publishers and broadcasters quick, reliable, and cost‑efficient content clearance for issues like defamation, privacy and contempt of court.

Founded by experienced media lawyers and technologists, the platform combines premier legal expertise with cutting-edge technology - bringing clarity, speed, and accessibility to legal clearance.

How Does ClearDraft Work

ClearDraft reviews content in a two-step process:

1) First, ClearDraft AI, specifically developed and trained to identify media law risks, reviews written content in minutes.

2) Next, legal issues are queued for review by expert lawyers - either by our own team of ClearDraft lawyers or your in-house legal team.

What makes ClearDraft’s AI unique compared to other solutions?

ClearDraft’s AI is trained on a lifetime of practical, hands-on experience in pre-publication risk assessment, real-time case law, regulatory decisions and jurisdictional precedent.

For those looking for more technical details, ClearDraft's AI product works through a multi-step architecture that combines a Large Language Model (LLM) with a custom Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system and a series of specialized Prompts to perform nuanced legal clearance.

ClearDraft's product is intentionally  designed to be procedural, not generative, meaning it runs content through a series of models to identify legal risk patterns rather than creating new content from general training data.

The RAG system is what makes ClearDraft truly unique. Its database is constantly updated with real-time legal and regulatory references, such as case law, Court Restrictions, Ofcom decisions, and jurisdictional precedent.

The result, thanks to our proprietary technology, is a product that instantaneously flags defamation, privacy and contempt risks – and the most appropriate defence.

What types of content can ClearDraft review?

ClearDraft can currently review written content - news articles, TV scripts, book manuscripts, podcast transcripts, and more - for defamation, privacy, and contempt of court issues.

While AI audio visual review is on the roadmap, ClearDraft lawyers are highly experienced in the TV & Film industry and are already supporting a number of clients in this area. Get in touch to learn more.

What risks can ClearDraft identify and which countries does it cover?

Currently the ClearDraft platform can analyse and clear all written content for defamation, privacy and contempt of court risks in the UK.

It will soon be able to do the same for an expanded list of UK media law risks. Key in-progress features on the product roadmap include building audiovisual AI review and developing the platform’s capabilities for U.S. media law.

Do lawyers review all of ClearDraft's Risk Assesments?

ClearDraft Pro and ClearDraft Enterprise are designed to include additional lawyer review and oversight for all AI scanned content. ClearDraft Pro features support from ClearDraft lawyers while ClearDraft Enterprise routes all flagged issues to an organization’s in-house legal team.

For ClearDraft Direct users, ClearDraft AI scans content to identify content risks in minutes. Then creators have the option to send the report to our legal support for full lawyer supervision if they choose.
